In the heart of Milwaukee, Susan Miller has built a life defined by resilience. 

At 63, Susan is a widow. She lost her husband in 2021, and as she puts it, life has been “a little hard” ever since. The house they once shared filled with ordinary laughter, everyday routines, and quiet companionship grew quieter. But it did not lose its meaning.

Years ago, Estella faced one of the greatest challenges imaginable—a quadruple open-heart surgery. Surviving such an operation changes a person. It slows the body, tests the spirit, and makes everyday things like climbing stairs, stepping into a bathtub, or bending down much harder than they once were. This fall, the Revitalize Milwaukee team completed a critical roof replacement on a Zilber neighborhood home that had been pushed to the brink. The roof was severely compromised, riddled with leaks that worsened dramatically after the August storm and subsequent flooding.

Rosa had spent her whole life taking care of others. 
Rosa has always been a hardworking mom and a devoted grandmother, the kind of woman who never asked for anything, even when life pushed hard against her. Her home, once full of laughter and the thundering footsteps of children, had slowly begun to show its age just as she had. But unlike her, the house couldn’t hold itself together out of pure determination. 

The paint has faded, the porch has creaked more with each passing season, and the shingles once black and sharp-edged had long since withered, curling like old paper in the sun. But the heart of the home has never dimmed. It's where Ms. Nash raised her four children, cooked meals for countless neighbors, and gathered community leaders around her kitchen table to dream up ways to protect and uplift their neighborhood. 

In the heart of Milwaukee, stands a home that has weathered many seasons much like its owner, Manuela. Manuela is the sole caregiver of her two autistic adult children, and she carries more responsibility than her aging body can easily bear. Walking had become difficult for her, and yet every day she navigated a house that had slowly become unsafe. 

Gloria has lived in her home in Milwaukee for many years. At 64, her house has always been more than just walls and a roof- it’s been the place where she built a life with her husband; where they shared memories and found comfort during hard times. But when her husband was injured, everything changed. Daily life became heavier, and the weight of caring for him while worrying about a deteriorating home felt overwhelming. The roof leaked, the bathroom was unsafe, and outdated electrical systems added constant anxiety. What should have been a place of rest instead became a source of fear. 

Catherine’s home was on the edge of becoming unlivable- she felt it every day in the warped rear door that needed coaxing just to close, in the towels she spread across her floors when the rain crept in, in the quiet dread that settled over her each time she opened a new notice from the city or the gas company. 

But all of that began to change the morning Revitalize Milwaukee arrived. 

Plummie has lived in his home for decades and the house had once been his pride. He used to repair everything himself, changing bulbs, tightening screws, replacing worn wood with his own hands. But age has a quiet way of taking the tools from us, one ability at a time. 

Lately, the home had begun to show its own struggles. 

Bonnie has lived in her Milwaukee home for decades- her house holds a lifetime of memories, family gatherings, celebrations, and quiet mornings spent watching the neighborhood wake up. But as time passed, the home she treasured began showing its age.

For the past four years, C has called Lindsay Heights home. She moved here with her mother, seeking a peaceful neighborhood, a safe environment, and a place she could truly make her own. From the beginning, though, her house had seen better days. The roof had aged beyond repair, shingles missing in places, and the gutters were rusted and clogged, threatening leaks and water damage every time it rained.
