This fall, the Revitalize Milwaukee team completed a critical roof replacement on a Zilber neighborhood home that had been pushed to the brink. The roof was severely compromised, riddled with leaks that worsened dramatically after the August storm and subsequent flooding. When our assessment revealed just how extensive the interior and exterior damage had become, the home was immediately escalated to a Priority One project. The family living there simply could not wait. 

Our roofing partners shared a powerful reflection from the homeowner, who spoke with deep gratitude about what the repairs meant to him and his family. The crew replaced rotted decking, installed a new roof, and added new gutters and downspouts stabilizing the home and restoring a sense of safety that had been slipping away day by day. 

The homeowner’s relief was palpable. The evening before our team arrived, he joked about getting started immediately and even offered to hold a flashlight just to help us begin sooner. Throughout the project, he repeatedly asked if there was anything he could do to assist, a gesture that revealed how deeply the repairs mattered to him. Without intervention, he knew that staying in their home wouldn’t have been possible much longer. 

Thanks to the collective efforts of Revitalize Milwaukee, our roofing partners and the dedication of everyone involved, this family can now live safely in their home protected, stable, and no longer afraid of the next storm.
