Justino & A Safer Home
Justino has lived a life defined by quiet strength, hard work, and devotion to the people he loves most.
For Justino, the most important part of life has always been simple: family. He and his wife have built a life together filled with care, resilience, and commitment. Like many families, their journey hasn’t been without hardship. When asked to describe his life, Justino reflects honestly: “My family has been okay… a few challenges in life.”
One of the greatest challenges he has faced has been health problems, which made everyday tasks in his home more difficult and sometimes unsafe.
The house he shares with his wife had slowly become harder to navigate. The front storm door froze in winter, ice forming on the inside during Wisconsin’s harsh cold. A leaking kitchen sink threatened further damage. The bathroom, once ordinary, had become dangerous stepping into the tub was difficult, and the old aluminum doors made access even harder.
For someone who spent a lifetime working and caring for others, these small problems began to feel overwhelming.
Then Revitalize Milwaukee stepped in.
Volunteers and staff arrived not just with tools, but with purpose to restore safety and dignity to Justino’s home.
They replaced the front storm door, insulating it to keep the winter cold outside where it belongs. They fixed the leak under the kitchen sink, stopping a problem that had quietly worsened over time. In the bathroom, they made critical changes for safety and accessibility: installing a tub cut-out, removing the heavy aluminum doors, adding a shower curtain, and placing grab bars near the tub and toilet to help prevent falls.
They also installed a tall toilet to make daily use easier and added a rear storm door for better protection and security.
These weren’t just repairs. They were changes that allowed Justino and his wife to move through their home with confidence again. When asked what he is most proud of in life, Justino doesn’t hesitate. “My family… my wife.”
His advice to others reflects the values that shaped his life: “Be a good working person.”
Today, because of the work done in his home, Justino can focus on what matters most which is spending time with the woman he loves and the family they built together.
Sometimes the most powerful transformations don’t happen in big, dramatic ways. Sometimes they happen in the quiet moments: turning on a faucet that no longer leaks, stepping safely into a shower, closing a door that finally keeps the cold out.
For Justino, those changes mean something priceless.
They mean home feels safe again.
