Miriam & A Safer Home

Miriam is a homeowner living in Milwaukee. She is a single mother and has significant mobility limitations due to past spinal and back medical procedures, which make walking and daily movement difficult. These physical challenges created safety and accessibility concerns within her home, particularly in the bathroom.

A home assessment by Revitalize Milwaukee identified several critical repair needs related to plumbing failures and bathroom safety. Persistent leaks from the toilet and sink had caused water damage, including a sinking subfloor in the bathroom. Additionally, the leaking toilet was allowing water to reach the basement with every flush, creating ongoing moisture and structural concerns.

Due to her limited mobility, entering and exiting the bathtub also posed a serious fall risk. The following critical repairs were completed to address these issues:

The leaking toilet was removed and replaced with a new tall toilet to improve accessibility and prevent further water damage.

The bathroom sink leaks were repaired by installing new plumbing mechanisms.

Damaged and sinking subflooring in the bathroom was removed and replaced, followed by installation of new bathroom flooring.
